Donate Your Holiday Cards

Posted on Jan 10, 2015

Every year I take down my holiday cards and I really don’t want to recycle them, but I can’t keep them all either. So I looked online and there are so many different charities that will take your holiday or all occasion cards. What a great way to give back and recycle at the same time! I found a place called St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. There are a couple easy rules they ask that you follow… Cannot be American Greetings, Hallmark, or Disney Send only the front of the card The back of the front of the card must have no writing   If you would like to participate, their address is: Recycled Card Program, 100 St. Jude’s Street, Boulder City, NV...

April is Earth Month

Posted on Apr 7, 2014

We are so busy in our day-to-day lives that we may not take time to think about our energy consumption. It’s important not only for our Earth, but for our pockets too. I found some interesting facts that I had no idea about, here they are: Replacing your old thermostat with a new programmable one is a great way to save energy. They are relatively inexpensive and you can get them at your local hardware store. This is something to look for when you are purchasing an air conditioner this Summer. Make sure the SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) is 14 or higher. Who knew? Lower the thermostat on your electric water heater to 120 degrees. Americans only recycle about 30% of their waste. If we could double that to 60%, we would save 315 million barrels of oil per year. That is a lot of $$$$ and too much going to our landfills. If you don’t already, start recycling now! Don’t know where to donate or how to get rid of those old clothes or kitchen items. Check out Freecycle, where you can post those items you don’t want and someone who needs them will take them off your...

Organize Your Menu – Weekly Food Prep

Posted on Mar 30, 2014

We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I love organizing and like to think that I’m pretty good at it. However, I’m horrible when it comes to food preparation. I do not necessarily enjoy cooking and I’m lazy when it comes to preparing meals. I have high hopes and good intentions, only to open the fridge, after a long day, and stare and say, nope… I think I’ll go out tonight. So, I’m trying to find new ways to make meal prep easier. I found a wonderful website, with great articles, recipes, etc., which are focused on clean eating. Check it out at www.greenplaterule.com. Here’s to a great, healthy week and hopefully many more to come!  ...

Spring Cleaning – Closet Purge

Posted on Mar 27, 2014

Spring is here, at least according to the calendar. Eventually we will all need to dig out our Spring and Summer clothes and gladly put our Winter clothes to rest. Unfortunately I do not have a walk-in closet, so I have taken over both closets in the master bedroom and part of the closet in our guest bedroom, where I keep off-season clothing. The first thing I do is swap out my Summer/Winter clothes from one closet to the other. While I’m swapping out my clothes, I’m simultaneously pulling out those clothes I have not worn in over a year. I throw those in a donate pile. If you have a walk-in or large enough closet to hold your entire wardrobe, I would keep your current season accessible and the off-season items toward the back or in an area less accessible. Here are some donation/consignment places for clothing in the area: www.conshyconsignment.com www.greenestreet.com www.impactthriftstores.org...

Snow Days Are Great For Organizing

Posted on Feb 3, 2014

Snow days are perfect for organizing! We’ve had a few of those this winter, so no excuses for not getting organized. Here are some ideas… Go through your closet and purge any items you haven’t wore in the past year. Don’t forget those accessories – shoes, purses, jewelry, etc. Here’s a twofer, while organizing your office and files, get your tax documents ready at the same time Organize your linen closets and bathroom drawers Does your kitchen need a fresh start? Organize and clean out your cabinets and pantries. Throw away outdated items. Give your basement a makeover. Purge all those kids toys they no longer play with. Some of you may be thinking, yeah right, I have to take care of my kids on snow days. My answer is… put them to work. Have them help you organize their bookshelves, bathroom drawers, or in the basement. STAY WARM!    ...

We have some exciting things rolling out this year….new blog posts, organization tips that cover all the bases, and some training classes. We would love to hear from YOU and what YOU would like us to talk about. I know this is the time of year when we look for healthier eating options. I recently watched a documentary on how our meat is processed in this country and it has motivated me to look for better alternatives.  Have you heard of farm shares? I want to share a link with you that my sister shared with me. This is great for all you meat eaters – www.phillycowshare.com. There are also similar sites for veggie lovers – www.farmtocity.org. If you are looking for something local in your area, just Google “farm shares” and the city you live in. Here’s to a Healthy New...
