Organize Your Menu – Weekly Food Prep

Posted on Mar 30, 2014

We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I love organizing and like to think that I’m pretty good at it. However, I’m horrible when it comes to food preparation. I do not necessarily enjoy cooking and I’m lazy when it comes to preparing meals. I have high hopes and good intentions, only to open the fridge, after a long day, and stare and say, nope… I think I’ll go out tonight. So, I’m trying to find new ways to make meal prep easier. I found a wonderful website, with great articles, recipes, etc., which are focused on clean eating. Check it out at www.greenplaterule.com. Here’s to a great, healthy week and hopefully many more to come!  ...

Snow days are perfect for organizing! We’ve had a few of those this winter, so no excuses for not getting organized. Here are some ideas… Go through your closet and purge any items you haven’t wore in the past year. Don’t forget those accessories – shoes, purses, jewelry, etc. Here’s a twofer, while organizing your office and files, get your tax documents ready at the same time Organize your linen closets and bathroom drawers Does your kitchen need a fresh start? Organize and clean out your cabinets and pantries. Throw away outdated items. Give your basement a makeover. Purge all those kids toys they no longer play with. Some of you may be thinking, yeah right, I have to take care of my kids on snow days. My answer is… put them to work. Have them help you organize their bookshelves, bathroom drawers, or in the basement. STAY WARM!    ...

3 Reasons Mason Jars Rock

Posted on Oct 18, 2013

We all know that mason jars are making a major comeback. They’re showing up at weddings, in hipster kitchens, and all over Pinterest for those really cool DIY projects. Coming from a practical hipster, here are my top three and notes for loving them in my home.     The cups/oz are marked on the side. Portion control is no sweat, used them for transporting lunches & making freezable soup portions. Pro-tip if you’re freezing your jars get the ones that are strait walled rather than the ones with the bottle “neck”. Helps you reach your goal of drinking more water by letting you know exactly how much you’ve drank. All your measuring cups are dirty, but if you have mason jars they make a versatile solution for measuring in a pinch My boyfriend loves them to pop a blender ball in them to make protein shakes, because they’re air tight and our original plastic blender ball started to leak.   Admittedly, I only love this when he remembers to rinse them out immediately after! (Ladies, can I get an amen?!)  They make great green storage containers for food, preserves, and freezer items. Left-overs, chicken stock, tomato sauce from a can or something else w/o ? Pop it into a mason...

Do Your Cabinets Need a Spring Clean?

Posted on May 16, 2013

Does this look familiar? Cabinets and pantries can get cluttered before you realize it. In order to get organized, set aside an hour and go through your cabinets/pantries and throw away/recycle all your expired items. Instead of making additional space for more items, rearrange and group like items. Group together: Baking goods, canned goods, cereal boxes, grains, boxed goods and quick meals, chips and snacks, drinks. Once these are grouped it’s easier to find and inventory. One of the ways to combat the clutter and maintain organization is to check your inventory, then make a list before taking a trip to the grocery store! There have been times, that I’ve hurried myself to the store without a list and cannot remember what I have or don’t have at home. Or I will leave the house thinking….”I’ll remember what I have”. We’ve all been...

Kitchen Organizing 101

Posted on Jun 18, 2012

I don’t know about you, but the kitchen is the last place I want to organize.  After cooking and cleaning, I want to run out of there!  Here are some quick and easy ideas that you can gradually introduce into your kitchen space. Add a Lazy Susan Keep your cookbooks out where you can see them Install a retractable book holder under your cabinet – great thing to keep your cookbooks clean and out of your way Think about installing additional lighting under your cabinets. IKEA has cheap and easy install track lighting. Gain space by hanging items such as potholders, spices, pots and pans Arrange drawers and cabinets by use – I have my dishes and glassware on the 1st and 2nd shelves of cabinets close to the dishwasher and sink. Use a large utensil holder for all cooking utensils and keep near your stove Keep your plastic containers contained.  Match lids to their containers and recycle the odd balls. Lid storage – one of the greater storage inventions. The Container Store has wonderful pull out storage for all your pots and pans lids. Swap out old storage containers for clear containers.  I have clear glass and plastic containers that I store rice, sugar, flour, dog treats, etc.  It is very helpful...
